L’homme qui marche. Acrylique sur toile, 80X65CM.2014

I enjoy preparing my own canvases: reclaiming old fabrics, stretching them over frames, and sealing them with rabbit skin glue. Subtly marked by time and carrying the memory of their previous lives, these materials become a source of inspiration in themselves.

This artisanal approach extends to the preparation of my paints and pigments, which I make from natural minerals and traditional binders such as egg yolk.

My desire to paint begins with a mental image that gradually takes shape on the canvas through a combination of drawing, colour, and material. I use the primary colours to construct an illusion of volume and depth, moving beyond the initial pictorial image.

Through the progressive addition of washes of terre d’ombre and Prussian blue, the work gradually emerges, like a photograph in a darkroom.
